Special Education Needs
At Gilsland, every child is unique, valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential. As a small village school, we know our children as individuals and pride ourselves on nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) have access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. We recognise that children learn in different ways and we adapt our teaching to meet individual needs enabling every child to to experience success and develop confidence.
Our caring staff work closely with parents and carers, listening to their knowledge and aspirations for their child. We also work in partnership with a range of external agencies including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, health services and specialist advisory teams, to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.
As a small school, our greatest strength is the strong relationship we build with our children and families. Every child is known as an individual, their strengths are celebrated and their needs are understood.
We aim to create a school community where children feel safe, respected and included and where they are encouraged to become resilient, independent learners.
